Review: Eminem – Relapse |
I’ve been in several endless discussions, debates, arguments and fights about this record since it leaked about 2 weeks ago. Therefore, I’ll only share the highlights of the albums and let the music speak for itself.
- 19 of the 20 tracks (including the skits) on the album are produced by Dr. Dre. God forbid if the Detox never gets released, this will be the closest body of work to it.
- The skits are well executed and they’re damn near iller than half these rappers actual albums. The skits make the songs twice as much complete and powerful. Mr. Mathers is my favourite one.
- This album feels a lot like the sequel to the Marshall Mathers LP and it seems Eminem makes up for any past mistakes (Encore) that he might have made. I personally never had a problem with Encore.
- The rhyming patterns and rhythm schemes are definitely like none other. Em slaughters through the Doc’s production and continues to remind us why he’s in a league of his own.
- “…come again, rewind Selec-tah!” – Medicine Ball

Review: Ciara – Fantasy Ride |
Super C returns with her 3rd album and its definitely the type to add to your collection. I’ve always admired Ciara for staying out the nasty circle of rumors and sex-tape/pic leaks and just focusing on her music. And you can certainly tell her level of dedication by the quality of the product she puts out. The album is thoroughly impressive with flawless production, catchy melodies, the correct amount of features and super song writing. The 13 track disc features J.T., Luda, Chris Breezy, Jeezy, The Dream and Missy. The production game is handled by Danja, Polow, Darkchild (hella underrated, but he murked Pucker Up) and more. The record is a fun experience and has something for everyone to enjoy from up-tempo bangers as Turntables to the soft sounds of I Don’t Remember. Fantasy Ride is out and can be purchased at your local Best-Buy. Support great music! Hit the jump for the chart burner Love, Sex, Magic with Justin Timberlake. Click the HQ button for this one.

Review: Ludacris – Theatre Of The Mind |
So after this drops (which is today), none of ya’ll so-called “critics” should ever be caught sayin’ “Hip Hop Is Dead!” (whatever that means anyways). Ludacris is the current definition of what this art is all about and where it needs to be heading. The underrated MC kept knocking it out the park for ya fools and he’s finally gonn’ get the recognition he deserves after this one. TOTM is structured to play out like an audio movie where every song feels like a scene which carrys a certain emotion. The co-star list is heavyyy as it ranges from the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Chris Rock, Jay-Z, current BFF T.I., Nas, Plies, Ving Rhames, T-Pain and etc. The guy got frikkin’ Ving Rhames. WHO DOES THAT!?! With a star studded cast, director ‘Cris doesn’t hold back to have the best-of-the-best handle the score of his masterpiece. The production lineup starrs: DJ Primier, 9th Wonder, Don Cannon, Clinton Sparks, Trackmasters, Dark Child, Swizz Beatz and plenty more. Whether you love Luda or hate his southern guts (I highly recommend “Everybody Hates Chris” co-starring Chris Rock for the haters!), the man has packed nuff goodies for all to enjoy. My personal favourites on the album include the first single starring Mayweather, Undisputed, One More Drink (co. T-Pain), Call Up The Homies (co. The Game/Willie Northpole), I Do It For Hip Hop (co. Nas/Jay-Z) and MVP. With his remarkable flow and witty wordplay, Luda proves his leadership while also playing the comic relief. TOFT drops today and can be caught playing at a local music store near you.

Review: Kanye West – 808s & Heartbreak |
As much as I’m satisfied with the music, I just can’t help feeling blue-balled at the end. Don’t get me wrong. The music and production on this project is real refreshing, original and mind bending. I guess I’m just a little held back by the “major” changes made to some of the tracks on the final cut. The album starts of with a haunted choir accompanied by the 808 bass, piano and real unorthodox snares. Genius! The opening track “Say You Will” really sets the tone for rest of the album, as Ye will continue to take you through his roller coaster of emotions. Anyone who hears this album will instantly tell you that the man doesn’t hold back what so ever. He’s got a problem and you’re going to hear about it. I really dont know why everyone is hating on the Auto-Tune, consider he’s BARELY on it throughout the album. Side Note: the effects of auto-tune on the records is suppose to represent the “heartbroken” side of him. The man’s been singing since College Dropout and he continues to use his own vocals with very little help from the pitch corrector. The production is very original and is bound to open the doors to several copy cats out there. It’s a personal project for Ye, but I’m sure several others will be able to relate to the subject matter. I like all the tracks on the album, as they only seem to grow on ya over time. I just wish he hadn’t changed “Welcome to Heartbreak” and “Robocop”. The original Robocop is soo heavy with the robot sounds and the arrangement was flawless. Also, the synth on WTHB was waaaaay better than the slow piano that now accompanies the track. And to spare ya’ll, I’m not even gonna talk about those drums. However, the track always gets better after the first verse (for me though). I think the instant classic on the entire album is the Yeezy and Jeezy collaboration on Amazing. No word of a lie, but the title sums it all. The way Jeezy in introduced on the track is monster and I really need to find out which synth they used for that haunting effect. *same synth can be hear near the end of Love Lockdown. The album will release Monday, Nov 24th and will be re-released on Dec 16th with a special edition packaging courtesy of Kaws. If ya got the extra flow or are a big Kaws, cop it again on Dec 16th. Otherwise, during this recession, it’s understood. Oh, and the collabo with Weezy is pretty dope still. Kid Cudi is on 2 tracks and he definitley held his spot. Overall, if you’re a Ye fan this will be a special treat for ya. And for those ignorant cats, who still think this is Ye’s version of “rap” or some dumb sh!t, just look over to the left and pick up the Ludacris album still. I’ll be on that in a minute. I can’t wait to test out this album (for the 808s) in the whip. 2 fingers!

Review: T.I. – Paper Trail |

Why do I only review shit that I like? The Kingggg is back! Mr. Harris Jr. picks up right where he left off in ‘07. Kinda. The twist to the plot is that he’s been inking the paper a lot more than he ever had since his first release back in ‘01. With Tip being on house arrest and dealing with some dark times in his life, he chose to channel his energy and creativity in a positive manner by writing his lyrics. Rumor has it, he hasn’t written a word since his debut I’m Serious and I for one can definitely tell the difference. It’s cool to get your Jay on once in a while, but after some time all your rhymes start to sound real watered down and plain nursery. Hence, you get the sing-a-long raps. The album starts off with a 808/synth heavy beat, courtesy of DJ Toomp, and Tip delivers 56 straight bars. After swimming through the intro, he rips right into another Toomp banger I’m Illy and slaughters it within the opening 4 bars. It’s very hard to not talk about every tracks on the album, cuz’ every single record is a hit. Whether its the swaggerific (smh) flow on Swagger Like Us, the feel good boasting over Live Your Life or the personal record Ready For Whatever, Mr. Harris Jr. shows no signs of weakness. Production is heavvyyy with the likes of Just Blaze, KanYe West, DJ Toomp, Drumma Boy, Swizz Beatz and etc. And guest features include Jay-Z, KanYe West, Lil Wayne, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Swizz Beatz, John Legend, Ludacris (good looking!), B.O.B. and Rihanna. Sadly, this will be the first T.I. album I will own, though I should have copped King, I’m Serious and Urban Legend still. Great album, definitely a Grammy contender and I highly recommend everyone to make ya purchase this Tuesday and keep great music alive. Not to mention, one of the illest album covers I’ve seen since ever. Paper Trail drops Sept. 30th.
P.S. – If you low on flow, cop the album from Best Buy for 13.99 if you ain’t got that HMV/Amazon money.

7th Anniversary |

Damn! It’s been seven years since The Blueprint, one of Jigga’s best albums. Everybody has their views and opinions on Jay-Z being
overrated and one of the worst rappers ever. People, I don’t think they call him a legend for nothing… Most likely people hate this album coz they don’t understand it. Jay has always been a consistent rapper. You have rappers that are 20 something and retiring, shameful… NO ONE, can front on this album!
Ruler’s Back – “Sue me, fuck you, what’s a couple dollars to me?”
Takeover – “And all you other cats throwin shots at Jigga/You only get half a bar, fuck y’all niggaz!”
Izzo(H.O.V.A.) – “Cops wanna knock me, D.A. wanna box me in/But somehow, I beat them charges like Rocky.”
Girls, Girls, Girls – “I got this African chick with Eddie Murphy on her skull/She like, “Jigga Man, why you treat me like animal?”/I’m like excuse me Ms. Fufu, but when I met your ass/you was dead broke and naked, and now you want half.”
Jigga that Nigga – “The crib got, killer views and square feet/You have to film MTV Cribs for a week.”
U Don’t Know – “I sell ice in the winter, I sell fire in hell/I am a hustler baby, I’ll sell water to a well.”
Hola’ Hovito – “I rhyme sicker than every rhyme spitter/Every crime nigga that rhyme or touch a mic because my mind’s quicker.”
Heart of the City (Ain’t No Love) – “Niggaz pray and pray on my downfall/But everytime I hit the ground I bounce up like roundball.”
Never Change – “We can get paper longer than Pippen’s arms.”
Song Cry – “They say you can’t turn a bad girl good/But once a good girl’s goin bad, she’s gone forever…”
All I Need – “I blow smoke in your face, burn rubber off the rim tires/Yes I-ah…Jay I-ah..”
Renegade feat. Eminem – “Bet everything you worth, you lose your tie and your shirt.”
Blueprint (Momma Loves Me) – “Unless you was me, how could you judge me?/I was brought up in pain, y’all can’t touch me.”

Review: Lil Wayne – Carter III |

It’s a big day for many, but its an even bigger day for Dwayne Carter aka Weezy F Baby. After much talk, countless features/cameos and numerous mixtapes, the man has finally been able to release his long due album, The Carter III. The Young Money team deserves a lot of credit for the marketing and promoting that was put behind this album, as it sure has helped expand the buzz globally. However, with endless marketing dollars, street buzz and a blazing single, the album falls short of being anything near a damn classic. I personally like just as many songs as I hate on the album. C’mon Weezy, I thought you had much better choice in picking your producers and should have saved those features for your own album. I bet a lot of kids were heart broken, when they found out that Mr. Carter had nothing to do with Just Blaze, hah. It’s a heavy joint, but the beat cannot be compared to Just Blaze’s caliber. And of course, without a doubt, Jay-Z had the best verse on the album and I just heard that he killed the Millie beat off of Carter III. Not a good look! Wayne does an amazing job by shining over the beats provided by Mr. West and prolly had the best storytelling on Dr. Carter. Good looking on the beat Swizz. The other producers who contributed their B class beats were Cool & Dre, David Banner, StreetRunner and such. Regardless the flaws, the album is bound to do a millie. His success is long over due and he definitely will land the number 1 spot with his lollipop single, which is also the number 1 ring-tone. Wayne’s just reaching his prime and I have a feeling that he will deliver a classic, eventually. Speaking of classics, where the fruck is Detox???
Must Check Out:

Review: NERD – Seeing Sounds |

I really gotta give it to NERD, as the album will emulate the exact feelings from the title. Seeing Sounds is a breathe of fresh air since last November’s Graduation. The album consists of 12 distinct, individual cuts and each one carries a certain emotion. Whether you wanna wild out to the sounds of the horns on Everyone Nose or stomp someone to the deafening guitar on Anti-Matter, the group keeps it interesting with their selective choice of musical direction. Do get one thing through your head, that this is a music album. This is not a rap album. Not a rock album. Not a punk album. Nor is it urban/alternative. This is raw music on a leash and you’re being fed the mind bending scores piece by piece. The production is on point and carries a mixed feel between the last 2 albums. If there is one thing Pharrell is good at besides making music, its writing a mean hook. I don’t think I’ve heard him sing a wack hook. The man is on point. And I’m also glad to hear Shae a lot more on the tracks this time around. It is sad that the album is being released on the same day as Dwayne 3, but I believe good music excels in the end regardless. Not to down play the other album, but I feel the NERD deserve their own release date and require a massive promotion. However, they have been busy promoting the album on the GITD tour and I hope they return with their own tour dates. I won’t speak too much about the track, cuz the words will do no justice to the actual feel. BTW, what ever happened to “Laser Gun Carrying”? Hopefully, it was a false track-list, cuz I’ll be pissed if they release it in Japan or so. Any who, this is definitely the pick for the month of June.

Review: Madonna – Hard Candy |
I personally don’t own any of her albums, but this might be the first. Madonna’s always been the one to rock the clubs with her infectious pop sound and who better to recruit for her album then Timbaland and JT for the first single “4 Minutes“. The song was aiiiight, but when I heard that The Neptunes were producing 8 out of the 12 tracks, I HAD to give it a listen. As much as I hate to admit it, the Star Trak boys massacred Timbo and Danja with their sounds and patterns. Don’t get it twisted, Timbo/Danja definitely got bangers on the albums, but the Neptunes sound was something fresh that the pair haven’t done in a minute. Also, their entire approach towards each track helps shape the entire album. I shouldn’t say this and maybe I’m biased, but the duo may be the only reason to purchase this album. Madonna definitely does her thing, but its nothing that I haven’t heard from her from the past 10 albums. This album is more so for the producers to shine, display their creative abilities and show the world, once again, why they’re called Star Trak. Guest feature is kept to a minimum and only includes Justin, KanYe and Pharrell. The album has several outstanding tracks and be sure to check out the Borat sounding melody on” Give It 2 Me“. Wait for the flip at 2:31. Get stupid!

Review: Mariah Carey – E=MC2 |
In today’s music industry, the market has made it extremely difficult for past artists to stay relevant with today’s time. With record sales being pissed out the back, its a struggle for artists to make a buck. Only a few can maintain their spot in the ring and Mariah is that chick. Her latest album, being her 11th, is flooded with quality tracks and genres that reach out to everyone. Believe me, there is something there for everyone. The girls can definitely vibe out to tracks like “I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time”, “Last Kiss” and the radio burner “Touch My Body”. While the guys can bang out bass-heavy tracks with the features of Damien Marley, T-Pain and Young Jeezy. Production on the album is contributed by Danja, Swizz Beatz, Tricky Stewart, DJ Toomp and, ofcourse, Jermaine Dupri. Whether you’re a fan or not, get used to a Mariah Carey summer. The radio stations are gonn grind her songs into the ground.
*She can still get it.

Review: Rick Ross – Trilla |

Trillaaaaaa! The Triple C Boss is back on the beach with a brand new beach (hah). Rick’s 2nd album starts out with a creative intro where he continues to shout out all his compadres in & out his verses. As we move down the list, he continues to blow kush in your face with bangers like “Speedin”, “Boss” and “This Me”. And its no surprise that the illest track on the album is “Maybach Music” which features Jay-Z. Rick does his thing by claiming that it was the realest sh!t he ever wrote sitting in his Maybach and Jay responds, “True story, my closet is like 2 stories/Straight to the happy ending, cuz’ I don’t do stories” Rick continues to hold his weight (no pun intended), as he delivers strong over “Billionaire” and “Luxury Tax”. I won’t lie, the Lil Wayne feature was more than half decent this time. Overall, the album is a bit more laid back than his debut but the production is real solid. J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League provided most of the tunes, with the help of Bink, J.R. Rotem, The Runners and so on. Trilla is NOW out. Enjoy the bass heavy beats chilling in your Civic.

Review: Snoop Dogg – Ego Trippin’ |
Here’s a dogg that never recieves the credit he deserves. You won’t even realize it, but majority of the industry is eating off his swag, slang and rhymes. The originator returns to the charts with his 9th studio album called Ego Trippin’ and he got the title on-point. I was impressed by the production, song writing and Snoop’s courage to explore different directions. The boy went all out on giving ya a blast from the past with tracks like “Sexual Seduction“, “SD Is Out” and that raw gutter sh!t on “Sets Up” (btw, good job Pha-real). The most far left track on the album has to be “My Medicine” where Snoop takes a stroll down the country and shouts out the late great Johnny Cash. The production team is heavy with the likes of The Neptunes, Teddy Riley, DJ Quik, Rick Rock, Shawty Redd, Nottz and so on. Overall, the cd is well cut and I definitely recommend this for the collection. Enjoy!
P.S. = SD Is Out is heavyyyy!
