Review: Eminem – Relapse
I’ve been in several endless discussions, debates, arguments and fights about this record since it leaked about 2 weeks ago. Therefore, I’ll only share the highlights of the albums and let the music speak for itself.
- 19 of the 20 tracks (including the skits) on the album are produced by Dr. Dre. God forbid if the Detox never gets released, this will be the closest body of work to it.
- The skits are well executed and they’re damn near iller than half these rappers actual albums. The skits make the songs twice as much complete and powerful. Mr. Mathers is my favourite one.
- This album feels a lot like the sequel to the Marshall Mathers LP and it seems Eminem makes up for any past mistakes (Encore) that he might have made. I personally never had a problem with Encore.
- The rhyming patterns and rhythm schemes are definitely like none other. Em slaughters through the Doc’s production and continues to remind us why he’s in a league of his own.
- “…come again, rewind Selec-tah!” – Medicine Ball
- Same Song & Dance is possibly one of the most eeriest and funny songs by Eminem. Its something that makes you laugh at first and then re-evaluate the record minutes after. I still feel uncomfortable hearing that 60-inch extension cord line at the end of the 2nd verse. Sorry LiLo.
- Beautiful and Deja Vu give you the perfect insight of all that he’s gone through.
- The entire album builts up to the last record Underground on which he reminds you one last time why he will always have that #1 slot. Sorry Jay.I personally think he can rip apart any rapper in the game today on that beat, with that exact flow. He sounds hella pissed, hah.
- This is not a bitch-album. You will not find you super sweet candy synths with lollipop hooks on this particular record. If you have never followed this man’s work and are hating on this, then choke yourself to the Lollipop single. And if you are a fan and don’t like this…then you’re just lying to yourself.
- The entire record is a story. Play this shit track for track and don’t skip nothing along the way. It’s like a movie…you would hate it if I showed ya random clips without filling ya in on whats happening in between. Very dope concept. The album art is amazing and don’t be scared of track 4, Insane.
