Last night Toca Tuesday featured a J Dilla and Big Pun tribute. 1st two hours was the Dilla tribute and last 2 hours was the Pun tribute with Just Blaze, Sean C & LV, Young Lord, Juju of The Beatnuts, Buckwild, DJ Soul, DJ Green Lantern, and a call from N.O.R.E. We lost a very talented artist in our community back in Feb 10/2006. Althought he is gone from his physical shell, his enormous body of work continues to stay relevant and fresh. Since he last dropped the Donuts, his work has lived through numerous artists, producers, fans and Detroit. We miss him dearly and will continue to carry the torch in his honor. We salute you! Light something, sip something and enjoy the following small collection of a legend. R.I.P. Jay Dee

Well, you know what I’ll be bumpin’ for the next few months. Cookin’ Soul did this mix amazing; best choice of Dilla beats. Most cats never bothered to touch this project coz they were scared to catch an L. Also if you lovin’ Dilla x Pun after this mixtape and started catching on to their music, burn. R.I.P. Pun, R.I.P. Stussy and Stones Throw Records have partnered for Raph Rashid’s classic pic of J Dilla on a limited-edition Stussy Tee. This will be released Feb. 13, 2010 in White and Black, available at stonesthrow.com and Stussy locations. The photo was taken by Raph Rashid in Dilla’s L.A. dining room-turned-studio, summer 2005, for his book Behind The Beat: Hip-Hop Home Studios.

American underground rap iconoclast Doom (formerly MF Doom) releases his new album Born Like This on Lex Records on March 24th. The U.K.-born, New York-raised rapper’s LP features contributions from Ghostface Killah, Raekwon and the beats of late production genius J Dilla, and represents seven years of work recorded on and off at home in Atlanta. Thom Yorke recently remixed sexy single “Gazillion Ear” and funky, Jake One-produced “Ballskin” is bouncing across the major music blogs. The centerpiece of the record is “Cellz”, which explodes with apocalyptic fury. On it, the late, great American poet Charles Bukowski reads of one of his best poems, “Dinosauria, We,” for almost two minutes while missiles fire and the Earth is laid to waste.

Remember the post bout a brand new Doom x Dilla joint that J.Rocc had premiered at a club event? Well, here is the CDQ audio of that. I’m seeing a lot of Doom joints floating around, all over Youtube. I hope these don’t end up killing his release. PS – That bassline is stoopid niiice.
