You’re rarely catch a Madlib interview, so I decided to post the most common one that everyone should be familiar with. I’ll try to find and post the dope interview he did with Scratch Magazine R.I.P.

I wish there was more to this. Dilla speaks on how he met up with Madlib and formed the sooper group Jaylib. There are hardly any interviews on the two speaking on each other. I wish someone has and leaks the Champion Sound studio sessions. One can only dream!
Very rare and hard to find track. Off the 2nd Boondocks mixtape. Don’t mind the Ni99a Moment intro.
We all got that one song that really hits hard and made us stop what we were doing and pay close attention to the sounds of Dilla. For me, it was The Official by Jaylib [Jay Dee x Madlib]. I had always appreciated Dilla’s work through Common/De La Soul/Q-Tip, but it wasn’t until I heard this joint when sh-t really started to make sense for me. And everybody who knows me has already heard about my story bout how I was at the Under Pressure jam back in ’03 andcompletely lost my senses when I heard Dilla’s vocals dancing around this horn/bass friendly track. I kept annoying the sh-t out the DJ until he gave me the name of the record, the artists and the company behind it. It was ’03, so we was on our Limewire-ish, me and Flash were scavenging the net for a couple days before he managed to finally get it. There wasn’t much information available at the time, so I decided to order the CD through HMV, who charged the hell outta me for it being a “limited” release or some sh-t. But those $28 dollars were the greatest investment of my life everrr. I had never heard of 2 producers just making beats for one another to rap one like they were doing. Champion Sound definitely opened the doors to several production/beat making techniques for myself. I’ve got a vault full of Dilla inspired beats (just like everyone else). A lot of those are personal and not everyone may understand the process behind ‘em. Commercial music has sucked the life out of real, soulful music. No one makes music for the love of it any more. If ya got that ONE Dilla track that did wonders for you, do leave a comment.
On this very day, 3 years ago, J Dilla passed away while leaving us with a golden masterpiece known as Donuts (which dropped on his bday Feb7th). Almost, as if he already knew the timeline of his existence and planned to bless us with his final work before moving on to another life form. As many of ya’ll know, the Legend was diagnosed with the lupus blood disease. Yet, he still continued to work from his bed and carve out a body of work, which will forever go down as some of his most genius work to date. With him gone, it didn’t stop sh!t as his presence was constantly felt through the releases of Ruff Draft, The Shining and Jay Love Japan. Even though he left us at such a young age, he continues to live through the timeless music he’s left behind and his family/friends. I’m sooper excited for the Beat Konducta: Vol 5 & 6 release TODAY, which is Madlib’s dedication to Jay Dee. The 42-track beat cd is very personal and you can definitely see and feel the emotions and hard work that were put in to it by ‘Lib and J Rocc. On behalf of us here at WxB, we wish all ya a HAPPY JAY-DEE DAY! Ofcourse its Dilla month and for some like myself its Dilla 25/8, but we’d like to show our appreciation today and help spread his presence. Hope ya’ll support great music by going out and coping 4 copies (or just one) of the Beat Konducta tape and any of J Dilla’s previous work. We’ll continue to post several Dilla related posts through out the day and hope ya enjoy and contribute back. We miss you, Dawg! R.I.P. Dilla. |
