Review: T.I. – Paper Trail |

Why do I only review shit that I like? The Kingggg is back! Mr. Harris Jr. picks up right where he left off in ’07. Kinda. The twist to the plot is that he’s been inking the paper a lot more than he ever had since his first release back in ’01. With Tip being on house arrest and dealing with some dark times in his life, he chose to channel his energy and creativity in a positive manner by writing his lyrics. Rumor has it, he hasn’t written a word since his debut I’m Serious and I for one can definitely tell the difference. It’s cool to get your Jay on once in a while, but after some time all your rhymes start to sound real watered down and plain nursery. Hence, you get the sing-a-long raps. The album starts off with a 808/synth heavy beat, courtesy of DJ Toomp, and Tip delivers 56 straight bars. After swimming through the intro, he rips right into another Toomp banger I’m Illy and slaughters it within the opening 4 bars. It’s very hard to not talk about every tracks on the album, cuz’ every single record is a hit. Whether its the swaggerific (smh) flow on Swagger Like Us, the feel good boasting over Live Your Life or the personal recordĀ Ready For Whatever, Mr. Harris Jr. shows no signs of weakness. Production is heavvyyy with the likes of Just Blaze, KanYe West, DJ Toomp, Drumma Boy, Swizz Beatz and etc. And guest features include Jay-Z, KanYe West, Lil Wayne, Usher, Justin Timberlake, Swizz Beatz, John Legend, Ludacris (good looking!), B.O.B. and Rihanna. Sadly, this will be the first T.I. album I will own, though I should have copped King, I’m Serious and Urban Legend still. Great album, definitely a Grammy contender and I highly recommend everyone to make ya purchase this Tuesday and keep great music alive. Not to mention, one of the illest album covers I’ve seen since ever. Paper Trail drops Sept. 30th.
P.S. – If you low on flow, cop the album from Best Buy for 13.99 if you ain’t got that HMV/Amazon money.
