Mayer Hawthorne Debuts New Tracks

hawthorne.jpg

Mayer Hawthorne was on BBC 1Xtra with Benji B and debuted a couple brand new tracks from his upcoming album. The tracks previewed were “Maybe So, Maybe No”, “I Wish It Would Rain”, “Green Eyed Love” and “Love’s Alright”. I must agree with Benji and PBW, I Wish It Would Rain is one of the illest joint on the album. Peep the track below and download the rest of the tracks from here (right click and save as). Watch Mayer perform Just Ain’t  Gonna Work Out  live from Trix. Enjoy!

I Wish It Would Rain

DOOM: Rolling Stones Interview

doom1.jpg

Source: Stones Throw

American underground rap iconoclast Doom (formerly MF Doom) releases his new album Born Like This on Lex Records on March 24th. The U.K.-born, New York-raised rapper’s LP features contributions from Ghostface Killah, Raekwon and the beats of late production genius J Dilla, and represents seven years of work recorded on and off at home in Atlanta. Thom Yorke recently remixed sexy single “Gazillion Ear” and funky, Jake One-produced “Ballskin” is bouncing across the major music blogs. The centerpiece of the record is “Cellz”, which explodes with apocalyptic fury. On it, the late, great American poet Charles Bukowski reads of one of his best poems, “Dinosauria, We,” for almost two minutes while missiles fire and the Earth is laid to waste.

Doom – Gazzillion Ear (Produced By: J-Dilla)

Remember the post bout a brand new Doom x Dilla joint that J.Rocc had premiered at a club event? Well, here is the CDQ audio of that. I’m seeing a lot of Doom joints floating around, all over Youtube. I hope these don’t end up killing his release. PS – That bassline is stoopid niiice.

Dilla’s Fam Interviews

Here is a collection of  the illest interviews by Dilla’s closest friends/fam. The 4 parts touch on Dilla’s Ruff Draft EP, the infamous shirt, a trip to Cali and his ppl’s memories of him. I remember listening to the EP for endless hours of the night for months and cruising down the streets blasting The $ and Crushin’. The original was released back in ’03, but did not include Wild on it. The re-release was pushed by Stones Throw and issued with a limited packaging which included: a TURN IT UP t-shirt, Ruff Draft Cassette, a custom Reckless Driving ticket and a J Dilla photo. Peep the rest of the interviews after the jump.

Interview #1: Dilla’s surprise gift from Common when he reached Cali and his new friendship

Dilla Ghost Doom. The collaboration we never got.

MF Doom rocks out to Dilla’s guitars on Sniper-Elite while Ghostface Killah slaughters on Murder Goons. Not much (hardly any) Doom collabos exist, however GFK was able to squeeze 2 beats from Dilla for his Fishscale album. Sadly, Dilla wasn’t around long enough to hear the finish product. The mp3s for the following 2 tracks can be purchased on Stones Throw (here) for only $0.99 cents each.

RAISE IT UP FOR MA DUKES!

 raise-it-up.jpg

The title and the shirt say it all. Dilla’s mother is battling with the same blood disease, lupus, which claimed her son’s life. It’s a very unfortunate and sad situation, therefore all $$$ from the shirts will go directly towards Ma Dukes foundation. The tee is designed by the artist known as Parra, who has helped design several other items for the Stones Throw catalog. Parra was not happy with the recent Vibe article, so he decided to act and raise awareness. I just ordered mine and am waiting for it sometime this week. Every dollar counts, so please help out for a great cause. The shirts are only $29.00 and can be purchased directly from the Stones Throw website (here) or a listed retailers after the jump.  (more…)

BRAND NEW MF DOOM x J DILLA ! ! !

J Rocc was courteous enough to drop a brand spanking new Doom x Dilla track @ a Jay Dee Tribute party. Not much info is out, except for this sooper dope footage of Rocc spinning the bass-heavy track with the crowd going apeshit. Same beat as Jay Elec’s Dimethyltryptamine.

HAPPY J-DILLA DAY!

j-dilla.jpg

On this very day, 3 years ago, J Dilla passed away while leaving us with a golden masterpiece known as Donuts (which dropped on his bday Feb7th). Almost, as if he already knew the timeline of his existence and planned to bless us with his final work before moving on to another life form. As many of ya’ll know, the Legend was diagnosed with the lupus blood disease. Yet, he still continued to work from his bed and carve out a body of work, which will forever go down as some of his most genius work to date. With him gone, it didn’t stop sh!t as his presence was constantly felt through the releases of Ruff Draft, The Shining and Jay Love Japan. Even though he left us at such a young age, he continues to live through the timeless music he’s left behind and his family/friends. I’m sooper excited for the Beat Konducta: Vol 5 & 6 release TODAY, which is Madlib’s dedication to Jay Dee. The 42-track beat cd is very personal and you can definitely see and feel the emotions and hard work that were put in to it by ‘Lib and J Rocc. On behalf of us here at WxB, we wish all ya a HAPPY JAY-DEE DAY! Ofcourse its Dilla month and for some like myself its Dilla 25/8, but we’d like to show our appreciation today and help spread his presence. Hope ya’ll support great music by going out and coping 4 copies (or just one) of the Beat Konducta tape and any of J Dilla’s previous work. We’ll continue to post several Dilla related posts through out the day and hope ya enjoy and contribute back. We miss you, Dawg! R.I.P. Dilla.

Madlib’s Dirty Covers

cardboard-bk1.jpg

Here’s a quick story on Madlib’s Beat Konducta Vol. 5-6′s album covers. CD drops Feb 10th. Place ya orders directly on the site.

If anyone is wondering why it looks like there is black mold growing on their copy of Beat Konducta Vol. 6, here is the reason: it is black mold. The covers for the vinyl editions of Beat Konducta Vol. 1, 2, 5 and 6, designed by Jeff Jank, are all from the same piece of cardboard. This was originally a library sound-effects record belonging to Peanut Butter Wolf which was being stored in a closet. After a leak and subsequent water damage in 2004, this record cover was thrown onto a back porch where it sat for at least a year before being used on Beat Konducta Vol. 1, and then Vol. 2. Two years later, aided by some spray paint and a lot more mold, it became Beat Konducta Vol. 5 and 6.The disintegrating cardboard is still hanging around the office contaminating its surroundings. As long as Madlib keeps making dirty beats, we’ll keep trying to use it for covers. Source: Stones Throw

Peep the rest of the covers after the jump.
