The 9 of ’09 ( my most anticipated films)
Word up readers. 2008 was a wild year movie wise, like really yo, who would of thought a movie about Batman…that same character from the much maligned Batman and Robin (eww!) would go on to be the second highest grossing movie ever, and a critical darling too, who would have thought Robert Downey Jr. would have pulled of an unbelievable reversal of fortune of this magnitude, with his super smash Iron Man and golden globe nominated (blackface!) performance in Tropic Thunder, and who would of thought that if you just try hard enough you can curve bullets around Angelina Jolie and shoot the wings off flies…..anywhoo, I thought it was a great year, and as opposed to going on a trip down memory lane and whatever, I’m instead gonna look forward to 2009 and the unbelievable plethora of films it has coming out….some look promising, others….not so much ,to put it politely (Cough *Dragonball* cough), so well this is my 9 most anticipated films of ’09
9). Avatar – December/18/2009 – FOX – Director/Writer James Cameron – Starring: Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Giovanni Ribisi
Why I’m anticipating this: Well First off this is James Cameron’s first full length feature since Aquaman..whats that? Aquaman wasn’t a real movie? what do you mean, Vinnie Chase was in it and Mandy Moore too, What….oh..how embarrassing. OK this is his first “real feature” since the award winning and record holding epic Titanic, and even before this gentleman has directed some absolute gems such as True Lies, Aliens, The Abyss, terminator and my all time favourite Terminator 2: Judgment Day. This guy clearly makes BIG movies and for this one, the guy help create his own f**kin’ camera to make it. Its apparently a 3D film, and the audience will have to wear glasses, but this aint no sissy 3D experience, its a different buzz.

Why it’ll do awesome: Its sci-fi, its big, its 3D and its It’s James “F**kin” Cameron
Why it may fail: No HUGE names (Sam Worthington?), 3D movies generally don’t do exceptionally well
8). Public Enemies- July/1/2009 – Universal- Director Michael Mann- Starring: Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, Channing Tatum, Marion Cotillard

Why I’m anticipating this :Michael Mann directs this true to life action thriller about depression-era criminal John Dillinger (Depp) and FBI agent Melvin Purves’ (Bale) attempts to capture him. If you aint excited by the prospect of Johnny Depp and Christian Bale in a move together (Jack Sparrow and Batman people!!), well i dunno what to tell you, maybe movies aren’t your thing. Plus Michale Mann has made some very good crime epics in his day, “Heat” anyone? And Michael Mann usually uses digital cinematography in his more recent films, such as ALI, Collateral and Miami Vice, i personally really LOVE the look, but this film is supposed to take place in the 1930′s so maybe it will be his return to conventional film or perhaps he’ll take a chance and give the 30′s a digital look.
Why it’ll do awesome: Bale and Depp are easily amongst the 10 biggest stars in the world right now, and they are also great actors.
Why it may fail: The move might not work out, anyone remember Miami Vice?….didn’t think so
7). Fanboys – February/6/2009- Weinstien Company -Director Kyle Newman- Starring: Jay Baruchel, Kristen Bell, Sam Huntington, Dan Fogler
Why I’m anticipating this: Since the first time i heard about this film, about 4 years ago maybe, i absolutely loved the premise, A group of friends decide to break into Skywalker Ranch to steal a copy Star Wars: Episode 1 for a dying friend, i thought it sounded great. However after years of delays, re-shoots, re-cuts and disputes with the Weinstien company, the film finally gets its much anticipated release in February. We’ll see how the film looks when it comes out, if its gonna be a case of the audience seeing the artists vision on screen, or if its gonna be a case of studio interference ruining what could have been, or just an awkward mix of both?

Why it’ll do awesome: It’s a movie about fanboys, and the fanboy movement is huge these days.
Why it may fail: Maybe the regular non fanboy will not have an interest in such a film,
6). Funny People- July/31/2009- Universal- Director/writer Judd Apatow- Starring: Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Eric Bana
Why I’m anticipating this: This one is quite easy, Judd Apatow follows up 40 year Old Virgin and Knocked up, with his go to ace Seth Rpgen. Adam Sandler joins Apatow for the 2nd time ( he wrote You don’t mess with the Zohan) as the leading man in this most likely R-Rated comedy/drama, his two best genres. And Eric Bana is in it, and for those who can recall, Knocked up, some very admirable things are said abouts Eric Bana for his performance in Munich. Also Jonah Hill and RZA are also in the cast of this sure to be classic of sorts.
Why it’ll do awesome: Judd Apatow has yet to make a bad movie, great premise, Sandler is the MAN!
Why it may fail: Maybe Sandlers core fanbase is in the PG-13 category, and has never made huge numbers in the R-Rated realm
5). WATCHMEN- March/6/2008 – Warener Bros.- Director Zack Snyder – Starring: Carla Gugino, Jeffrey Dean Morgan,Malin Akerman, Malin Akerman
Why I’m anticipating this: Since i saw the trailer before the Imax showing of the Dark Knight i was mesmerized by this film. The long awaited movie adaption of Alan Moore’s classic graphic novel,is finally making it to the big screen, and from the looks of it so far, Zack Snyder has done a comendable job of getting the look and feel of the comic onto celluloid. Also its rated R for strong graphic violence, sexuality, nudity and language, no toning down for wider audiences shit here.

Why it’ll do awesome: It’s the Watchemen, comic book movies do great (most), Zack Snyder did the much loved “300″.
Why it may fail: Cast of relative unknowns, Alan Moore hates the movie, It may not even come out, cause of legal issues.
4). Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen – June/26/2009 – Paramount – Director Michael Bay – Starring: Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, Optimus Prime, Megatron (he comes back)
Why I’m anticipating this: Well let me think, cause i think the first one was a real coming of age story of a boy and his desire to find love and keep his family together in times of turmoil….NOT!!. Listen man there were robots, explosions and a hot girl who served the sole purpose of being eye candy…This is the sequel and you know what sequel means in Hollywood? more, more, more….more robots, more explosions, more hot girls….more awesome= more money. Michael Bay may not be what most people consider a true “great director” but this is his genre and he does it better than anyone else. I can’t wait even for the trailer of this motherf**ker.

Why it’ll do awesome: The sequel to a film that is still fresh in most minds. More Robots
Why it may fail: Nothing, most sure fire film of ’09….maybe GM is having trouble and trying to revamp their image so maybe the new Autobots will have to be sissy hybrids or something ( what a terrible joke)
3). X-Men Origins: Wolverine - May/1/2009 – Fox -Director Gavin Hood – Starring: Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Ryan Renolds, Will.i.am
Why I’m anticipating this: A spin-off of the highly popular X-Men trilogy, in this prequel of sorts Hugh Jackman reprises his role as Wolverine, the bad ass Canadian mutant, with adamantium bones and shit, excited much? There were rumours in the summer of Fox trying to get director Gavin Hood to make the movie more Iron Man like and less Dark Knight, however director Gavin Hood stood valiently by his vision and by the looks of the trailer they got a real good balance. This one is gonna be huge and Hugh Jackman has said if the fans are disappointing, he will step down as Wolverine, sounds like he’s confident about this film.

Why it’ll do awesome: Great cast, Wolverine is a fan favourite since the original trilogy, They got GAMBIT yo!!
Why it may fail: May be too dark maybe?…that didn’t stop the Dark Knight, then theres Will.i.am, like what the hell?
2). Terminator: Salvation – May/22/2009 – Warner Bros/Sony – Director McG – Starring: Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, Common
Why I’m anticipating this: They are going to continue the Terminator franchise, this time it takes place in the actual future and hopefully this time they will do it right. They tried with terminator 3, but that one left many Terminator fans with a bad taste in their mouths. This time they were able to get Christan Bale as John Conner and lets, just say words could not explain the feeling i had when heard that news. This fellow IS Batman, and now he IS gonna rock John Conner, like whoa. The trailer for this has had such a positive buzz that the sequel has already been green lit for production. And well excitement continues to grow for this.

Why it’ll do awesome: Christian Bale is too ill, the trailer is Crazy, and well we may see Schwarzenegger’s T-101 in it somehow, hopefully
Why it may fail: McG made the vomit inducing Charlies Angels: Full Throttle (shudder) but that’s the past, also it may be PG-13 for the dreaded “wider audience”
1). Dragonball: Evolution – April/6/2009 – Fox – Director James Wong – Starring Justin Chatwin, Emmy Rossum, James Marsters, Chow Yun-Fat
Why I’m anticipating this: Okay this is a contoversial choice, but i like to ruffle the feathers a little bit, plus it increases readership and response. But okay, this movie is a trainwreck yoo. I’ve followed this film very closely and well, this may become the standrd on what not to do when making an adaptation of anything. The casting is WAAYY off….Justin Chatwin?? you mean Tom Cruise’s wiener son in War of the Worlds? He doesn’t wear a goku wig, cause his hair looks Goku-ish enough?? There is no Krillin, but Yamcha exists? I’m not sure they fly in this, its based in real and somewhat contemporary society, the trailer looks awful and well the kicker of all kickers……Piccolo isn’t green……let me repeat the nigga Piccolo aint green…what the f**k?? There was a point when the internet was on fire with news that Fox was apparently gonna just pull the plug on this 100 million dollar debauchery, but i guess they figured might as well release it and let the people decide, well based on everything I’ve decided this is the worst piece of shit i will ever see……and i aint even seen it yet. Which then leads me to think, okay, I’m destined to watch this film..i will, despite my hateration towards it. Will it be as bad i think? will it compel to commit some sort of act of self sacrifice in the theater for Hollywood anally raping my childhood favourite? Will i just go full retard and think it’s actually a faithful adaptation of the source material?……well on April 6 2009 we’re gonna find out,…..may god have mercy on my soul…….Piccolo aint green what a f**king joke.
=WTF????
UPDATE: Piccolo may be green after all, looks like this aint a complete waste just yet….

…….oh there’s a trailer too, perhaps it will inspire a change in my opinion of this film…..

……never f**king mind
Why it may be awesome: Maybe they’ll change the title and character names and it will stand as a decent kung-fu nonsense movie, peoples stupidity towards the issue
Why it’ll may fail: see the trailer
Well thats my bullshit first article for this wonderful site, hopefully ya’lls tell me what i may have missed, or what shouldn’t have been on the list or whatever, Ya’ll have a happy New Year and stay safe see ya’lls in 09….
